Sculptra is made from poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible synthetic material that has been used in medical applications for decades. When injected into the deep dermis or subdermis, the PLLA microparticles act as a scaffold that stimulates fibroblasts — the cells responsible for producing collagen.
Over several weeks, your body responds to the PLLA by building new collagen fibers around and through the treated area.
