TruSculpt uses Monopolar radiofrequency (RF) technology to deliver therapeutic heat directly to the fat layer beneath the skin, permanently destroying fat cells without affecting surrounding tissue. The versatile pod handpieces can be placed anywhere on the body and customized to your unique shape, allowing multiple areas to be treated simultaneously. Destroyed fat cells are naturally eliminated by the body over the following 6–12 weeks.
In preparation for your truSculpt iD body sculpting treatment, your visit begins with a consultation. Our team measures and marks the desired treatment area(s) so we can customize the treatment settings for your personalized results.
In general, before your appointment:
The desired area to be treated should be relatively void of hair, specifically to assist the gel pads in sticking to the skin. If there is stubble, it is completely fine, but too much hair means our nurses will have to shave the area down beforehand.
Organic sun exposure is perfectly fine, but sunless tanners should be avoided for at least a month prior to treatment. If you forget, do not worry — our nurses will discuss this in the consultation as well.
Using the information from your consultation, gel strips are applied to the treatment area(s). This assists in thermal conductivity and also prevents skin-to-handpiece contact.
Once the gel has been applied, the handpieces are placed and fixed, and the treatment begins. Most patients describe the sensation as similar to a hot stone massage.
Once 15 minutes have passed, either the next area is treated or the procedure is finished. The nurse will then remove the handpieces and gel and go over post-procedure directions for optimal results.
As the treatment begins, the area starts warming up and, within the first three minutes, it will feel like it is being treated similarly to a hot stone massage. You can expect your body to get used to the heat, and to feel warm all over during the 15-minute treatment.
truSculpt iD was designed to assist the busy patient in any way possible. Unlike surgery or other treatments, truSculpt iD body sculpting is specifically a 15-minute easy treatment with no unwanted side effects.
There is no downtime at all, but having multiple treatments on the same area back-to-back is prohibited. Treatments must be spaced out at least a month or longer.
After your truSculpt iD treatment you can expect to go back to all your normal activities — the gym, work, vacation, the beach — although we strongly recommend waiting at least 12 hours before these activities. Unlike any other fat loss treatment, there is no recovery after your treatment.
Drink plenty of water, as the destroyed fat cells are secreted out of the bladder.
Not at all. Unlike CoolSculpting, there is no downtime after truSculpt iD body sculpting. You can go back to your normal routine immediately after the treatment.
Moderate hyperemia (redness of the treatment area) should appear after completion of each 15-minute treatment zone and typically resolves within a few hours.
Post-procedure, the treatment area will be warm and flushed for less than one hour. You may experience mild sensitivity to the touch for a few days, but you will be able to immediately return to normal activities and exercise.
There is no problem with being exposed to the sun immediately after the treatment.
Removing pockets of stubborn fat can be a frustrating experience. Eating well, working out, and doing cardio simply do not always reach those areas. Body sculpting helps you maximize all the hard work you put in day after day by targeting specific areas of stubborn fat.
The most popular body sculpting treatment on the market has historically been CoolSculpting — the first non-surgical treatment of its kind to be released. truSculpt iD is the newest body sculpting treatment from top laser manufacturer Cutera. Even though both offer similar results, there are quite a few notable differences in how they get there.
CoolSculpting, or cryolipolysis, is a non-invasive treatment that freezes fat cells in targeted areas. Freezing the fat cells causes them to effectively die and leads to them being excreted from the body. It works by placing a roll of fat within two panels, then bringing it down to freezing temperatures until the fat is permanently damaged and secreted. According to studies, after 6 months up to 25% of fat can be removed using CoolSculpt.
truSculpt iD provides a personalized, hands-free and hand-held solution to permanent fat reduction and body contouring. It uses several handpieces that offer more placement options and allow multiple areas to be targeted simultaneously. This powerful Monopolar Radio Frequency Hyperthermia platform is tailored to each patient's individual needs and features.
The truSculpt iD treats the entire area of stubborn fat as well as the deeper layers, resulting in an average fat reduction of 24%. The treatment is customized with 15-minute protocols that can treat the full abdomen or multiple areas of fat simultaneously.
With both CoolSculpting and truSculpt iD, the targeted areas experience the therapeutic temperatures needed for fat removal for 15 minutes. However, our body has a resting temperature of around 96 to 99 degrees Fahrenheit. Because truSculpt iD uses heat, it does not take more than a minute to reach the required therapeutic temperature of 104 degrees. The therapeutic temperature required for CoolSculpting is much below our resting temperature, which adds a significant amount of time to the procedure.
CoolSculpting takes 105 minutes whereas truSculpt iD only takes 15 minutes per treatment area. Furthermore, CoolSculpting requires 6 post-lymphatic massage sessions to trigger the destruction of fat cells and to shape the treated areas. This is not necessary with truSculpt iD.
Winner: truSculpt iD
truSculpt iD has been compared to a hot stone massage by many patients. The temperature of the skin on and around the treatment area rises, but not to an uncomfortable level. With CoolSculpting, the feeling is slightly less comfortable — there is a pulling and tugging sensation throughout that is accompanied by pinching and cramping. There is also an intense cold sensation as the treatment area descends to the required therapeutic temperature. CoolSculpting may not be well suited for those with a low pain threshold, as it is the more painful one.
Winner: truSculpt iD
Both treatments have a great success rate. On average, truSculpt iD leads to 24% fat reduction whereas CoolSculpting leads to 20–25% reduction in fat. It is important to note that the average fat reduction for truSculpt treatments is not calculated the same as that for CoolSculpting — fewer patients are candidates for CoolSculpt and fewer areas can be treated, so the data is inherently skewed in CoolSculpt's favor. The effectiveness of CoolSculpting is also largely dependent on the post-treatment lymphatic massages.
Winner: truSculpt iD
truSculpt iD is the safest body sculpting treatment on the market and has absolutely no downtime. After the treatment, the area will be warm to the touch and could be slightly red for about an hour. Daily activities and exercise can be resumed almost immediately.
CoolSculpting side effects can include temporary redness, swelling, blanching, bruising, firmness, tingling, stinging, tenderness, cramping, aching, itching, or skin sensitivity.
Winner: truSculpt iD
CoolSculpting can be used on almost every body part, even on the chin. This means you can usually target more than one area at a time, like the abdomen and flanks.
It is generally considered a very uncomfortable experience, and pain can persist in the area well after the treatment has finished. It also does not treat saggy skin, which often gets worse after fat reduction. CoolSculpting cannot be performed on anyone with a BMI over 30, and those with non-pinchable fat are also not candidates.
truSculpt iD can treat multiple areas at once and is fast — just one session takes only 15 minutes. There is very minimal patient discomfort and zero bruising or swelling. It is the only device that can treat areas with a tattoo, people with a BMI over 30, and remove non-pinchable fat. Best of all, it greatly improves skin tightness, which is very important after the treatment area experiences weight loss.
The only downside with truSculpt iD is that optimal results can take up to 8–12 weeks to appear. However, when combining truSculpt iD with Muscle Sculpting, results will appear in half the time. Due to the stimulation of the lymphatic system experienced during the fleX, the secretion of fat cells is accelerated.
Lipolysis is the process of fat cell breakdown. Non-invasive body sculpting devices induce this process and promote the excretion of the destroyed fat cells. There are four categories of treatment options through which lipolysis can be achieved:
SculpSure is right up there with truSculpt iD in terms of efficacy and treatment temperature. However, SculpSure falls short in several areas. SculpSure cannot treat patients with a BMI over 30 and it takes three times as long to treat one area. It also has a higher risk of side effects and does not help with skin laxity like truSculpt iD does.
The most popular laser lipolysis treatment is SculpSure, manufactured by CynoSure. This treatment uses laser heat to target localized fat by approximately 10 degrees centigrade to promote apoptosis. The treatment involves the placement of eight specific sized applicators that complete a treatment in 50 minutes. The treatment involves zero downtime, and has been clinically proven to reduce 25% of fat cells in the area. However, this treatment usually requires multiple sessions, and only one area can be treated at a time.
Unlike truSculpt iD, UltraShape requires multiple treatments to attain the same results. The total treatment time is therefore 96 minutes compared to 15 minutes for truSculpt iD. Furthermore, patients are only eligible for UltraShape body sculpting if they have a BMI under 30.
EMSculpt is a 2-in-1 treatment option that helps reduce fat as well as increase muscle mass. In terms of fat reduction and lipolysis, it does not quite compare to the other treatments. However, it is quite effective at increasing muscle mass — much like truSculpt iD's sister device used for Muscle Sculpting.
EMSculpt is ideal for patients that are not only trying to achieve weight loss, but gain muscle. EMSculpt cannot reduce large amounts of fat, which means it may not be the correct treatment for everyone. It may be better to treat your fat first, and then undergo a treatment designed to increase muscle mass — for example, first doing truSculpt iD followed by Muscle Sculpting.

During this procedure, we use the 16 cm hand-held tool, due to the fact that it is able to give off multiple stamps — helping remove fat from the left, middle, and right side of the chin.
