PICO GENESIS LASER FAQs
Because PICO Genesis is effective on all skin types, virtually everyone can benefit from the procedure.
Anyone under the Miami sun is a good candidate for brown spot, age spot and sun spot removal, freckle removal or melasma treatment.
For one treatment area, such as the face, the typical treatment time is 20 minutes.
No, shaving before treatment is not necessary.
We recommend a minimum of 4 treatments.
You can do maintenance treatments thereafter, which is especially recommended for those who spend a lot of time in the sun.
Pico Genesis is a great treatment to alternate with other treatments like Hydrafacial and RF Microneedling. It's all about making your skin produce more collaged and elastin.
Patients should not tan or use self-tanners for at least 4 weeks prior to their treatment.
- You should not use tanning beds or use self-tanners for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment.
- Avoid treatments that may irritate the skin (depilatories, harsh chemicals, etc.) for 1-2 weeks prior to treatment.
- Clean the skin by removing all make-up and/or topical anesthetic.
Typical treatment intervals are every 3-4 weeks, as necessary.
There is minor discomfort from the heat emitted but this can be adjusted to a patient's pain tolerance.
We usually recommend 4 sessions in order to see 100% of the results. But you will start seeing results from the first treatment. A personalized treatment plan will be formulated upon consultation. Protecting your skin from sun damage is essential. You may want to do a maintenance treatment six months later, depending on your sun exposure. Many of our clients do two maintenance treatments a year to keep combatting sun and age.
Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 to 4 weeks, and use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen.
Results will be seen anywhere between 1-3 weeks. Treated pigment will turn darker (brown to black) within 24-48 hours.
Do not pick at treated areas.
Treated pigment will exfoliate off the face in approximately 1 week. Treated pigment will exfoliate off the body in approximately 2-3 weeks.
- If a blister develops, it will quickly resolve.
- You will experience mild edema and swelling for 2-3 hours after the procedure. Many patients get an allergic-type light rash that responds well to over the counter hydrocortizone.
- You may want to take a benadryl before you go to sleep the night of the treatment as well, to avoid the light rash.
- Avoid direct sun exposure for 2 to 4 weeks, and use a broad spectrum (UVA/UVB) sunscreen.
- Avoid heat (hot tubs, saunas, etc.) for 1-2 days.
- Also avoid skin irritants (products containing tretinoin, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicylic acids, astringents, etc.) a few days post-treatment.

What to expect after pico genesis?
After the Pico Genesis treatment most of our clients experience a slight redness and swelling immediately following the treatment. These side effects are temporary and resolve in roughly 3-4 hours.
Over the course of the next few days, the treated sunspots and freckles will gradually become darker and continue to flake off as they heal. This will help reveal a new and even complexion.
