What a Lumecca session looks like
Everything you'd ask at the consult
A gold-standard option for pigment and vascular correction: if years in the Miami sun have left scattered brown spots, a flushed or ruddy undertone, or visible capillaries around the nose or cheeks, Lumecca addresses all of it with precision and minimal downtime — our workhorse against sun damage, redness, and rosacea.
Light, absorbed by exactly two targets
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) works by delivering broad-spectrum light energy that is selectively absorbed by two targets in the skin: melanin — the pigment in brown spots — and hemoglobin — the red pigment in blood vessels. When melanin absorbs the light, the pigmented cells are disrupted and rise to the surface, where they naturally flake away. When hemoglobin absorbs it, the walls of superficial blood vessels coagulate and collapse. That dual mechanism is why one session treats both pigment and redness at once — see our in-depth sun damage guide for the full science.
What makes Lumecca different
Lumecca is not a generic IPL device. Its optimized wavelength range (515–1064 nm) and high peak power address both targets more effectively per pulse — InMode reports up to 2–3 times the energy of competing IPL systems — which can mean fewer sessions and faster clearance for many patients. Unlike older IPL devices, it delivers controlled light pulses precisely calibrated to each patient's skin — classic photorejuvenation.
During the session
- The handpiece is passed across the skin in even, overlapping pulses — each one a quick flash of light.
- Most patients describe the sensation as a warm snap — brief, tolerable, and over quickly.
- A full face treatment takes about 15–20 minutes; larger body areas like the chest or hands may take up to 30 minutes.
Sunspots, age spots & freckles
The flat, brown patches that accumulate on sun-exposed skin — Lumecca shatters the excess melanin so your body clears it naturally over the following week. Scattered freckles and solar lentigines across the face, chest, shoulders, and hands respond quickly to its broad-area coverage. Read our age spot removal and dark spots guides.
Rosacea, redness & vascular lesions
Lumecca targets the dilated blood vessels behind persistent flushing and a ruddy complexion. Spider veins, broken capillaries, and cherry angiomas on the face and body collapse after treatment.
Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation & tone
Dark marks left behind by acne, rashes, or other skin injuries fade as the pigment is disrupted — part of the broader family of hyperpigmentation we treat. The combined pigment and vascular correction gives uneven skin texture and tone a brighter, more uniform appearance — the fastest route to a brighter, glowing complexion.
Areas we treat
Lumecca is remarkably versatile for a single device. Beyond the face, we treat the neck, décolleté, chest, hands, shoulders, arms, legs, and back — including the pigmented marks of acne scars and uneven skin texture & tone.
Where pigment runs deeper
For pigment that is deeper, hormone-driven, or resistant to light-based treatment — including melasma — we may recommend layering Lumecca with Pico Genesis laser for precision targeting, or with VI Chemical Peels for surface brightening and resurfacing.
How the series builds
Most patients see meaningful improvement after a single Lumecca session — but the best, most durable results come from a short series.
- Session 1 — addresses the most superficial pigment and vascular concerns, with a noticeable difference typically within 7–10 days.
- Sessions 2–3 — target deeper or more stubborn pigment, refine vascular correction, and build the cumulative glow Lumecca is known for.
Spacing and maintenance
Sessions are typically spaced 3–4 weeks apart. After the initial series, many patients maintain results with a touch-up session once or twice per year — especially in Miami, where UV exposure continues year-round. See real cases in our results gallery.
What you'll notice first
A brighter, more flushed appearance immediately after treatment — the "Lumecca glow." Over the following 3–7 days, pigmented spots darken visibly (like coffee grounds or small freckles), then naturally crust and flake off. Once the pigment clears, the skin underneath is noticeably clearer and more even. Vascular improvements are also visible within the first week as treated blood vessels collapse and fade from view.
How long results last
Cleared spots and vessels do not return — but new sun exposure creates new pigment. Daily SPF plus periodic touch-ups keep the clearer tone going; tanning will form new dark spots over time, just as before treatment.
Who's a good candidate
Lumecca is an excellent fit if you:
- Have sun damage, age spots, or brown discoloration on the face, chest, hands, or shoulders
- Notice persistent redness, flushing, or visible blood vessels
- Want visible improvement with minimal downtime — often beginning after the first session
- Have a lighter skin tone (Fitzpatrick I–III) — or can be assessed for modified settings
- Are committed to daily sun protection during and after your treatment course
Skin tone matters with IPL
Lumecca works best on Fitzpatrick skin types I–III (lighter tones), but can be calibrated for a range of skin types with careful parameter adjustment. Because IPL targets melanin, deeper skin tones and melasma-driven pigmentation carry a higher risk of post-treatment pigment changes — in those cases we may recommend Pico Genesis instead, whose energy mechanism is gentler for deeper tones and hormone-driven pigment. We will tell you at consultation whether Lumecca is the right platform for your skin.
Who should wait — or choose another option
- Recent tanning or self-tanner in the treatment area — deferred until the tan fades.
- Photosensitizing medications — discussed individually and paused as directed.
- Pregnancy, active infections, or open lesions in the area — deferred until resolved.
- Melasma-dominant pigmentation — heat and light can worsen hormonal pigment; gentler modalities come first.
Before your session
- Avoid sun exposure and self-tanner for 2–4 weeks
- Discontinue retinoids and photosensitizing medications as directed
- Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup and sunscreen
A cooling gel is applied to the treatment area, and you wear protective eye shields throughout. Every treatment at Miami Skin Spa is performed by a licensed medical provider after an individual evaluation — meet the team.
What recovery looks like
- Mild redness and warmth for a few hours after treatment — similar to a light sunburn
- Darkening of pigmented spots over 3–7 days, followed by natural flaking
- No bandages, no wound care, no extended downtime — most patients resume regular activities the same day
Critical aftercare
- Wear SPF 30+ daily and reapply every 2 hours when outdoors. Sun exposure during your treatment course can undermine your results and cause rebound pigmentation.
- Avoid hot showers, saunas, and strenuous exercise for 24 hours
- Do not pick or scrub darkened spots — let them flake off naturally
- Pause retinoids and active exfoliants for a few days post-treatment
Sun protection is essential throughout your treatment course.
What we pair it with
Lumecca works powerfully on its own, but pairing it with complementary treatments amplifies the overall result:
- Lumecca + Chemical Peels — VI Peels brighten surface tone and improve texture between IPL sessions, accelerating the clearance of diffuse sun damage.
- Lumecca + Pico Genesis — for patients with both broad-area sun damage and isolated stubborn spots, Lumecca covers the wide area while Pico targets the resistant individual lesions.
- Lumecca + Facials — a HydraFacial 1–2 weeks after Lumecca keeps the skin hydrated and glowing as it clears pigment.
- Lumecca + Forma — needle-free radiofrequency tightening pairs pigment correction with firmer, smoother-looking skin.
For pigment below the jawline, the same platform powers our body laser treatments. We map these combinations at consultation so each treatment supports the next without overloading your skin.
Not sure IPL is the right tool? Bring your concern, not a treatment name. A consultation maps your skin and goals to the right plan — whether that's Lumecca, Pico Genesis, a VI Peel, or a combination.
Lumecca IPL vs the alternatives
All four improve pigment and tone — the difference is mechanism, precision, and skin-tone fit. We offer every option below, so the recommendation is based on your skin, not the device.
| Treatment | How it works | Best for | Downtime | Skin tones |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lumecca IPL | Broad-spectrum pulsed light absorbed by melanin and hemoglobin | Broad-area sun damage, redness, vessels | Little to none — spots flake over 3–7 days | Best in lighter tones (I–III) |
| Pico Genesis | Picosecond laser shatters pigment with minimal heat | Stubborn or deeper pigment, melasma-prone skin | Minimal | Gentler for deeper tones |
| VI Chemical Peels | Medical-grade acids resurface the outer layers | Surface tone and brightening between sessions | Several days of peeling | Formulas for most tones |
| Laser Genesis | Gentle non-ablative laser warms the dermis | Diffuse redness, no-downtime glow | None | Most tones |

Lumecca is a non-invasive IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment that targets skin imperfections like sun damage, age spots, hyperpigmentation, and vascular lesions. Built by InMode, it is one of the most powerful IPL platforms available.
An IPL photofacial (sometimes written photo facial) is a light-based treatment that clears pigment and redness across the face, neck, chest, or hands. Lumecca is the IPL platform we use for photofacials at our Brickell studio.
Lumecca uses intense pulsed light to break down pigmentation and reduce visible blood vessels, improving skin clarity and tone — pigmented and vascular concerns are treated in the same session.
Lumecca effectively treats sun spots, age spots, redness, rosacea, vascular lesions, and uneven skin tone and texture. It can also fade the dark marks left behind by acne and other post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
At Miami Skin Spa, Lumecca IPL starts at $300 per area per session. A full-face session is $400, or $1,050 for a package of 3 — and we regularly run face specials. See our pricing page for every area and current offers.
There is minimal to no downtime. Most patients can resume daily activities immediately. Treated areas may darken slightly before naturally flaking off over a few days.
Many patients notice improvement after one session, but a series of treatments — typically 1 to 3, spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart — is recommended for optimal, long-lasting results.
Lumecca is most effective on lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–III) but can be customized for a range of skin types with proper consultation and calibration. For deeper skin tones or melasma-driven pigment, we often recommend Pico Genesis instead.
Most patients describe each pulse as a quick warm snap — brief, tolerable, and over quickly. A cooling gel is applied first, and a full-face treatment takes about 15 to 20 minutes.
IPL delivers broad-spectrum light (515–1064 nm) to treat pigment and redness over large areas quickly. Lasers like Pico Genesis use a single focused wavelength for precision targeting of stubborn or deeper pigment. We offer both and match the device to your skin at consultation.
Yes — many of our Lumecca IPL patients come from Miami Beach and Coral Gables. Our Brickell studio is centrally located, a short drive from both.
